We all love Cinco de Mayo, either or not we can personally trace our ancestry to Mexico. We love the food, the celebratory atmosphere, the parades, the music, all things - but how much do you well know about this day of celebration? Keep reading for some sharp Cinco de Mayo facts, which may come as a surprise to you.

1) The holiday is not Mexico's Independence Day: This is a very coarse misconception about Cinco de Mayo, which seems to persist to this day. Mexico's Independence Day is well September 16th.

2) This holiday is a celebration of the victory of Mexican soldiers under the command of normal Ignacio Zaragoza over a much larger group of French invaders in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. One of the ways that the day is notable in Puebla and in Mexico City is with reenactments of this historic battle; often with simulated (or even real!) gunfire. If you are fortunate adequate to be in this part of Mexico during Cinco de Mayo, it is a spectacle not to be missed.

3) While parades are held to commemorate this May 5th holiday in Puebla and in Mexico City, the world's largest Cinco de Mayo parade is well in the United States! Los Angleles' Festival de Fiesta Broadway draws over half a million spectators annually and is the largest event of its kind.

4) While the holiday is officially a national holiday in Mexico, it is barely notable surface of the state of Puebla and in Mexico City; by contrast, hundreds of holiday celebrations are held every year in the Us, where it has become a celebration of Mexican-American culture and achievements more so than to mark the victory at Puebla in 1862.

7) Unusual Cinco de Mayo celebrations comprise the Cayman Islands' with its air guitar competition and Canada's skydiving event.
